Q: Why do I need a wall? A: There are many reasons for a wall. Some are obvious and some are not so obvious. The most important reason is to retain the existing land you have, or to extend the land beyond your existing boundaries. (Subject to approval by Tarrant County Water District) Another reason is to prevent infestations by water animals, like snakes and water nutrients. (Water rats) Or you may just want a clean crisp look along your lake front. Q: What type of material is used to construct my wall? A: Your retaining wall is constructed of either seven gauge galvanized or eight gauge black steel. Four inch deadman and ¾ inch tie rods are used to stabilize the panels once driven into the lake and topped with a welded four inch by four inch angle. Q: Is a concrete sidewalk included in the total price? A: A concrete sidewalk can be placed on your retaining wall at an additional cost. The cost varies on accessibility to the lake front. Q: What is the difference between galvanized and black steel? A: Structurally there is no difference. Galvanized steel has a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years and black steel has a life expectancy of 10 to 15 years. Q: What type of equipment will be used to construct my wall? A: Sharp Construction uses a floating barge equipped with a motorized excavator. All heavy equipment will be moved in by barge to ensure minimal damage to your property. Q: How long will it take to complete my wall? A: Wall completion depends on many factors. Weather, and or the condition of the lake bottom along the wall area are just a few. A good rule of thumb is it takes about two to three days to complete every 100 feet of wall. Q: Does Sharp Construction build boat houses? A: Sharp Construction does one thing and that is build steel retaining walls, however while building your wall we would be happy to drive a few pipe for an existing boat house or tear down the old boat house at a minimal cost to you. Q: What if I want both a boat house and a steel retaining wall? A: Sharp Construction works in conjunction with the best boat house builders on the lake. We would be happy to give you their names and phone numbers. In most cases we can meet with you at the same time in order to save your valuable time. Q: Do I need a permit and if so who is responsible for submitting it? A: Yes, in all new wall construction a permit is required; on occasion a small repair does not require a permit. This is determined by the inspector. Sharp Construction will submit your permit and answer any questions from the inspector. Currently the permit fee is $100.00 which is an additional fee over the cost of your steel retaining wall. Q: How much does a steel retaining wall cost? A: A steel retaining wall price is determined upon the length and size of panels. Sharp Construction will be happy to give you a free estimate. In most cases we will be able to give you a price within five minutes of measuring your wall. If you have any further questions please contact Todd or Kimberly Sharp at Sharp Construction and we will be happy to answer any question that you may have. ![]() ©2002 Sharp Construction ©2002 AB Web Design |
